Denver – Douglas County School Board Pushes Plan Forward

The Douglas County school board after months of controversy and studies, has approved a new revolutionary plan aimed at helping pay tuition for hundreds of students set to attend private schools in Denver.

Although the test is a annual reviewed pilot program, it can possibly make up to 500 students eligible to receive just over $4500 towards their private school tuition for the upcoming 2011 two 2012 school year.

It is estimated that this will help the districts save about $3 million by having 500 less students. The school district is expecting to pay out about $2.3 million in voucher scholarships however when the CESA and other expenses are deducted the school district is estimating the net just over $400,000.
