Denver Eye Surgery
Denver eye surgery physicians agree that corrective eye surgery is helping more and more people improve their vision as new technologies are broadening the reach of people with eye issues. In other words, eye surgery has become a viable option for a larger segment of the population.
While Denver eye surgery statistics continue to climb in the number of people who’ve had the surgery, there will always be those who will continue to use eye glasses and contact lenses. They’ll continue to wear glasses simply because they’re afraid of going under the Laser.
There are more procedures available today than there were in 1995 when Denver eye surgery was becoming widespread in the city as well as in the state of Colorado. The number of procedures available today is about a dozen, but the two most popular are:
- LASIK aka Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis
- PRK aka Photorefractive Keratotomy
Of the two procedures listed above LASIK is used in more patients than any other procedure even though they both do similar processes, which is to reshape the surface of your eye so that light can enter properly.
LASIK includes creating a small thin surgical flap on the cornea to allow the laser to reshape the eye to the proper dimensions. When the Denver eye surgery doctor completes the procedure he replaces the flap allowing it to heal.
Denver eye surgery doctors performed the PRK surgery before LASIK
PRK aka Photorefractive Keratotomy is a procedure that’s used to change the curvature of the eye just as with LASIK but with PRK the surgeon doesn’t cut the eye to create a flap.
Instead the procedure uses the laser light energy to eliminate tissue straight from the surface of the eye. The difference between the two procedures is that LASIK is a little more successful but yet more risks are involved. Denver eye surgery doctors prefer LASIK because it is a little more accurate.
If you figured that PRK was surpassed by LASIK in number of procedures performed you’d be right. But PRK still has some advantages over LASIK, which is something only a Denver eye surgery doctor can explain to you given that every patient has unique problems.
So what are the goals of having eye surgery in Denver?
The goal of any Denver eye surgery doctor is to restore your vision to 20/20 so that you don’t need to wear glasses any more to be able to see clearly. Although 20/20 is usually the goal sometimes it’s surpassed for the reason that some patients come out with better than 20/20 vision.
Having your vision restored to better than 20/20 isn’t typical so it’s not something that you should look forward to; instead look forward to being able to see as normally. And send your Denver eye surgery doctor a thank you card!

"LASIK was an amazing experience! I have been putting it off for years and I am so glad I finally decided to get it done."
"If I had known the procedure would have been this easy, I would have had it done years ago. The doctor and his staff were fantastic. Highly Recommended!"
"I was so surprised at how quick and easy the Lasik procedure was. It only took about 15 minutes and it didn't hurt at all. Wheww."
"I've been wearing contacts for 15 years and glasses for 18. The Lasik procedure itself was easy and I'd even say fascinating. I can't believe I have 20/20 vision after 20 years!"
"It has been three weeks since the LASIK surgery that has changed my life and I wanted to tell you that I could not be happier with the results of the procedure. I had severe nearsightedness with astigmatism. Looking back upon the entire experience from the initial screening to the recovery and follow-up, my only regret is that I did not do it all a lot sooner."
